IRC employs a core group of consulting staff and hires subconsultants on a project-by-project basis to offer professional consulting services in the following fields:

Aquatic Sciences: IRC specializes in aquatic sciences and has conducted studies, assessments and monitoring for a variety of projects from hydroelectric facilities (1 MW to 80 MW) to land development projects such as pump station installations, culvert installations/rehabilitations and dyke upgrades.

We offer expertise in:

  • Fisheries Biology (including radiotelemetry studies and fish inventories by electrofishing, snorkeling and minnow trapping)
  • Freshwater and Marine Ecology
  • Aquatic Invertebrate Biology
  • Riparian Studies
  • Instream Flow Evaluations

Terrestrial Sciences: IRC employs subcontractors on a project-by-project basis with specialties in wildlife, birds, and rare and endangered vegetation. IRC has been involved in terrestrial studies and assessments for a variety of projects from proposed hydroelectric facilities to local construction projects. Wildlife and vegetation services provided by IRC include:

  • Wildlife Biology (including surveys for mountain goat, spotted owl, grizzly bear, harlequin duck)
  • Vegetation Inventory and Analysis
  • Habitat Enhancement and Mitigation Planning
  • Wetlands Ecology and Management
  • Threatened and Endangered Species Evaluations

Physical Sciences and Resource Management: IRC has been involved in a variety of freshwater and marine studies associated with water quality, effluent discharge and sediment analyses. IRC also employees individuals with experience in conducting stage 1 assessments of contaminated sites. The Kirsten F , a 32 foot marine vessel, is available for use in local research programs. IRC offers professional services in the following:

Environmental Assessment /Impact Analysis: IRC has conducted environmental assessments and impact analyses for a variety of projects including hydroelectric facilities and local land development projects. These projects involve negotiating with, and obtaining approvals for instream works from, the appropriate regulating agencies. IRC has prepared Environmental Assessments for submission to:

  • Department of Fisheries and Oceans
  • Ministry of Environment
  • Municipal Governments
  • Fraser River Estuary Management Program
